Category Manager
Reports to: Chief Merchandising Officer
Full Time, Salaried
100% Remote
The category manager is responsible for driving revenue & margin goals, developing critical insights & uncovering new business opportunities. In addition, the category manager role oversees all pieces that touch the product as it relates to its set up, maintenance, and performance. This role maintains a daily understanding and communication of private brand or market brand needs, which will include, but not limited to: product set up, cost updates, product changes, sales analysis, and securing promotions. This role also works closely with the Inventory teams on forward receipts & addressing clearance, and Marketing team on timing & execution of new product launches, as well as supplying product information for emails and website features.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Understand customer demographics and buying behaviors within the category; plan, develop, and drive strategy around product mix, pricing, promotions, margin, revenue, and item movement
Manage and grow categories through product and vendor selection, utilizing strategic competitive analysis and customer feedback
Develop and execute strategy around product taxonomy and categorization
Conduct monthly data-driven category reviews to evaluate promotional effectiveness, competitive activity, and customer experience within the store
Maintain, create, and grow tactical relationships with vendors within the category; conduct category and vendor analysis
Effectively negotiate profit margins, discount terms, and pricing structure to increase the customer value of the category
Work cross-functionally with appropriate teams (brand team, buyers, marketing, finance, A/P, merchandising, etc.)
Manage inventory turns and levels, perform forecasts, evaluate new item introductions, and perform SKU rationalization
Education/Experience
Proven ability to be innovative, operate autonomously and make complex decisions in situations of ambiguity and time pressure
Direct experience in leading complex negotiations
Proficient at using Excel, PowerPoint, Looker and JIRA
Comfortable using Shopify, Fast Simon and Great Plains
Bachelor's degree in business finance, marketing or other related field required
2 or more years working as a Category Manager or Buyer, preferably with an eCommerce retailer
Fitness related industry experience a plus!
